Larry Smith is a corrected dyslexic and certified teacher

Larry Smith established Rocky Point Academy© in 1999.  He had dyslexia and ADD before taking the Davis Dyslexia Correction® Program at the age of 27. Due to dramatic results, he decided this is something he wanted to offer others.

Larry achieved his Bachelors in education with undergraduate work in psychology.  He has had experience teaching grades K-12, working as a job coach and physical therapist for mentally and physically challenged individuals.  He has also coached Special Olympics.

Larry was trained by Ron Davis, the founder of the Davis® Method, and left his job as a public school teacher to open up Rocky Point Academy©.  Larry is the first and most experienced Davis® Facilitator in Alberta.

Larry says he enjoys being a Davis® Facilitator because:

"It gives us a completely different outlook on the dyslexic.  The dyslexic mind is brilliant, creative, intuitive and innovative and now we have a way which enables the dyslexic to allow these talents to work for us.  We can turn off the learning struggles and at the same time allow the 'gift' to express itself."

Larry has been awarded the Alberta Literacy Award of Merit for 2001.  This award recognizes individuals for "exceptional dedication, significant accomplishments in literacy, and outstanding initiative and leadership in support of literacy in Alberta".  Larry has given many presentations to schools, communities and organizations in order to enhance awareness of the positive aspects of dyslexia and ADD.

Stacey is a corrected dyslexic and certified teacher

Stacey Smith helped establish Rocky Point Academy© in 1999.  She has the gift of dyslexia and took the Davis Program at the age of 26.  She is the mother of three daughters who also exhibit the gift.

Stacey is a certified elementary teacher and has had extensive experience in elementary classrooms.  In addition to her education degree she obtained minors in special education,  psychology, child development and social sciences.   She spent 12 years tutoring those with learning disabilities in the areas of reading and math.  She has experience working as a job coach, physical therapist, and life skills teacher for the mentally and physically challenged individuals.  Stacey was the Head Coach for the Special Olympics swim team for three years.

Stacey was trained by Ron Davis, the founder of the Davis® Method.

Stacey says she enjoys being a Davis® Facilitator because:

"After years of watching brilliant children struggle, and trying method after method to help them, I have finally found the solution to their needs.  This program gives them the ability to overcome the obstacles and allows their gifts to shine through.  I love watching a client come in on Monday with their head hanging, and leave on Friday with a bounce to their step and head held high."
